Any Italian will tell you that there is nothing better than Sunday lunch at nonna’s house with a big plate of lasagna. Many adults try to recreate this experience in their own home and fail. The truth is, baking a real lasagna is not easy! You need to get everything just right for the final product to taste anywhere as good as the one your grandma would make.
There is a small life hack many young adults have already discovered – the crockpot. Making meals in the crockpot is a lot easier than using the oven. You don’t have to precook anything; just throw the ingredients together and let them cook in the crockpot. It will take 4 hours, but you can spend that time watching movies on the couch!
How to make Crockpot Lasagna?
Brown ground beef in a pan and set aside.
Pour spaghetti sauce into your crockpot.
Use some sauce to toss your browned beef in.
Place a third of the meat mixture over the pasta.
Cover the sauce in the slow cooker with uncooked lasagna noodles.
Spread some cottage cheese over the meat layer.
Sprinkle some mozzarella over the cottage cheese.
Add another layer of uncooked lasagna.
Add another layer of meat, cottage cheese, and mozzarella.
Add another layer of uncooked lasagna noodles, meat, and mozzarella.
Sprinkle parmesan cheese on top.
Cook for 4 hours on low.
What to do if the cheese isn’t melted after 4 hours in the crockpot?
Giving the lasagna more time in the slow cooker will allow the cheese to cook a little bit more. If you’re not satisfied with the way your lasagna looks after 4 hours, give it some more time.
How many layers should lasagna have?
Traditional lasagna recipes call for at least 3 layers. There are 3 layers in our crockpot lasagna. If you’re brave, you can try adding more layers and see how they do in the slow cooker. Fewer layers just will not do!
Why is my lasagna runny?
Runny lasagna is usually the result of too much sauce. Make sure the spaghetti sauce you use is not too runny. It should be a good, thick consistency that the noodles will be able to stand on. If your lasagna noodles are sinking, that’s not a good sign.
